Hotels

The Coach and Horses Inn

Caerwent, Caldicot NP26 5AX, UK – 01291 420352

Lovely big pub in the roman village of Caerwent. Visit was for a community event on a bright sunny day. Light refreshments were provided which were fresh well presented and more than sufficient for over 80 guests. Staff reasonably friendly and efficient too. All I'm all I would recommend a visit if you are passing through.

Good food but overpriced. Fairly close village community atmosphere but all are made very welcome. Extensive dining area including a very large beer garden. Very family friendly and lots of playground equipment.

Brooklands Motel

Pill Row, Caldicot NP26 5JD, UK – 01291 430500

I was google-mapping Caldicot as a potential meet-up & stopover point and came across Brooklands Motel on the map... and WOW what a find! I was a little put off by the lack of uptodate website (having checked out many other hotels and B&Bs that way) but when I phoned to enquire about availibility, I was greeted and welcomed in a family-like manner and I happily booked a room with full confidence. I was absolutely delighted to arrive first (by train, the motel is an easy 10 minute walk away from Caldicot station) and be shown to our lovely room by the friendly and welcoming owner. I was then directed best route on foot up the road to the Castle as I had time to burn; had a lovely scone & tea there and perused the castle. The motel is extremely well presented, small, quiet, well-equipped, clean, and the owners obviously work hard to ensure everyone's needs are met. Our bed was super comfy, the en-suite (small but perfectly formed) was clean and the shower was good, and the breakfast was nice. I would highly recommend this wonderful Motel if you need somewhere reasonably priced in Caldicot. In fact, I doubt you could find anyplace better in the area, whatever price you paid.

Northgate House

Northgate House, A48, Caerwent, Caldicot NP26 5NZ, UK – 01291 425890

There is a Roman wall in the back garden and places of interest where Time Team dug to find yet more Roman ruins and Jeremey Clarkson with Top Gear crew were nearby, one team digging up the ruins and the other running over the ruins.. Each room has a unique design and homely feel, the beds are firm and comfortable, the breakfast is good. The polite and friendly atmosphere is why I keep coming back. The fact that I keep leaving things behind has nothing to do with it, I promise to buck up next time, this time I left my phone behind. I will have to stop eating those Alzheimer grapes.

Very clean, good food and great service

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

The Lychgate

47 Church Rd, Caldicot NP26 4HW, UK – 01291 422378

This is the second time I have stayed with Janice at the Lychgate. 1st time December 2014 when my partners Dad was unwell and we live 200 miles away. She was very kind and caring particularly towards mum when dad passed away. Mum has now moved to be near us and she and I stayed there last night. What can I say same warm welcome, Janice can't do enough to make you comfortable, the beds are amazing and the breakfast lovely top quality. Oh and not to forget the lovely rooms and views.

Great guesthouse. Brilliant location with lovely rooms and delicious food.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Caldicot Castle

Church Rd, Chepstow, Caldicot NP26 4HU, UK – 01291 420241

A great place to explore a 13th century castle for free (please note there is an admission charge on event days, otherwise entry is free). It boasts a cafe which serves beverages (tea and coffee), soft drinks and alcoholic drinks too. I recommend the Welsh brewed Castle bitter. Large grassy areas idea for children and dogs. Well worth a visit.

Gorgeous grounds to wander round, beautiful castle ruins. The perfect venue for my mediaeval wedding 4 years ago. Wonderful staff, and has some great events throughout the year.
