Brooklands Motel

Pill Row, Caldicot NP26 5JD, UK – 01291 430500

I was google-mapping Caldicot as a potential meet-up & stopover point and came across Brooklands Motel on the map... and WOW what a find! I was a little put off by the lack of uptodate website (having checked out many other hotels and B&Bs that way) but when I phoned to enquire about availibility, I was greeted and welcomed in a family-like manner and I happily booked a room with full confidence. I was absolutely delighted to arrive first (by train, the motel is an easy 10 minute walk away from Caldicot station) and be shown to our lovely room by the friendly and welcoming owner. I was then directed best route on foot up the road to the Castle as I had time to burn; had a lovely scone & tea there and perused the castle. The motel is extremely well presented, small, quiet, well-equipped, clean, and the owners obviously work hard to ensure everyone's needs are met. Our bed was super comfy, the en-suite (small but perfectly formed) was clean and the shower was good, and the breakfast was nice. I would highly recommend this wonderful Motel if you need somewhere reasonably priced in Caldicot. In fact, I doubt you could find anyplace better in the area, whatever price you paid.

Court Farm

Court farm, Rogiet, Newport NP26 3UR, UK – 01633 880232

Very clean staff helpful and polite overall a good stay

Lovely place with a spacious fresh room. The shower is easy to use and allows you to have a nice and warm shower. The country side around is absolutely stunning and although you can hear the motorway in the distance it doesn't really take away from the scenery. The only thing was to find this place as the indicator on Google maps seemed to take me to a random road. Upon calling Sue, the hostess, we got easy and clear instructions which was only a few minutes away from the indication on the map. Breakfast was served with an amazing service and you had a lot of items too choose from.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Haywain

Sandy Ln, Caldicot NP26 4NE, UK – 01291 427193

I dine here once a week, staff are always friendly and helpful. They come to check the food is good, if you ordered any. There are a wide variety of choices on the menu and the food is great. Small meals and larger meals (for the bigger appetite) are offered here. Plenty of tables for those just swinging by last minute. Only need to reserve if dining in larger groups of 10 or more. Menu choices are revised to bring something new sporadically, keeps the tastebuds coming back for more!

Excellent food, lovely staff, great atmosphere. Good value for money and excellent portion sizes. Recommended!

The Coach and Horses Inn

Caerwent, Caldicot NP26 5AX, UK – 01291 420352

Excellent village pub with friendly welcome. Good menu choices with outside and kids menus. Advisable to book table to eat. Tea, coffee and cakes served. Wide selection of great beers and wines. Good facilities for young children with ample outside seating. Party and celebration facilities available.

Lovely big pub in the roman village of Caerwent. Visit was for a community event on a bright sunny day. Light refreshments were provided which were fresh well presented and more than sufficient for over 80 guests. Staff reasonably friendly and efficient too. All I'm all I would recommend a visit if you are passing through.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Northgate House

Northgate House, A48, Caerwent, Caldicot NP26 5NZ, UK – 01291 425890

Our room was basic but had everything we needed and was clean. Breakfast was good and the owners were very attentive and friendly.

This is the second year in a row we've stayed here and again we have not been disappointed. The owners are always polite and helpful and the rooms immaculate, we have had a lovely stay here.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Caldicot Castle

Church Rd, Chepstow, Caldicot NP26 4HU, UK – 01291 420241

Caldicot Castle is a brilliant piece of history. It has a beautiful country park and free entrance to a substantial castle which is in tact. It's a beautiful, peaceful place on the edge of an area packed with ancient Roman history (it's under 2miles from the Roman remains at Caerwent). Definitely worth a visit and a wander down to the village centre for tea!

It's a gem! Free entry too. There's so much to see and do. Well worth a visit. Perfect for all the family.
